This week we have been practising our fire and earthquake drills. Our best time for getting everyone out of the building during a fire drill so far has been 22 seconds, not bad at all considering the children had no warning and for our new children it was the first time they had practised.
To help the children improve their earthquake turtles we videoed them and played it back to the them. They loved seeing themselves and thought they were video stars. We practiced what to do inside Rosy Cheeks and outside, great work.
Kylie continues to work very hard on the Educa on line profiles, some children are already set up and others will be set up in the near future.
Keep your eyes open in the entrance hall for some information on the quick taster sessions that we will be running in the near future. If you have any concerns or questions Kylie will be happy to talk with you.
The children at Rosy Cheeks recently created and submitted their entry in the BNZ Amazing Place Playground Competition. This will be on display at the Rebuild and Recovery Expo being held at the CBS Arena this weekend. This is a free event and I believe there is a people’s choice award for the most votes, so please head along if you can and vote for us.
Go to www.canterburyresidentialrebuild.govt.nz/events for more information.
Today the children made chocolate cake and decorated it. Worthy of a cake shop I think!
We have had great fun this week playing with toys and discussing how they work. Check out some of the children’s ideas in the display area in the main play. Some great thoughts, well worth a look.
If you have any equipment or toys at home that move please feel free to share them with us at Rosy Cheeks, we’d love to have a guess at how they work.
Just a reminder that we are closed on Thursday for ANZAC day, have a lovely day spending time together.
Jess’s sister brought in her 2 eight week old kittens to visit today, as you can imagine they were very popular and received many cuddles!
Thanks Kari for making pizza with the children, they loved it. First they rolled out their own base then they chose the topping they wanted. There were some unusual shaped pizzas and some interesting topping choices. When they were ready we ate them for lunch, delicious.
Our winter weather seems to have arrived and with that gumboots. These are an excellent option for play outside as the children can jump in puddles without getting wet feet. They do cause a few problems inside however. It is very difficult for a child to sit comfortably on the mat either at mat time or while playing as gumboots can be quite rigid and high up their legs. A great solution is to send a pair of gumboots along to be kept by the door and then a pair of shoes (or slippers) for when your child is inside. If you wish to do this then please label the gumboots really well.
If you have any difficulty encouraging your child to do this then feel free to send along both pairs of footwear and the teachers will talk to them about it……some battles can be avoided!
Let us hope it is a short winter.
We have finished our Playground and it looks super. The children have worked really hard on this and have also had a lot of fun doing it. This has been a long project and their ability to stay focussed and dedicated to finishing is brilliant.
We have now taken it to where they will display it along with other preschool and primary school entries.
